Colin Cowherd says Michigan is the best team in the Big Ten
Fox TV/radio host Colin Cowherd shared an unconventional ranking of the Big Ten’s best teams Tuesday, amid debate on where the conference’s top teams should stand in the College Football Playoff race.
“Michigan’s the best team in the Big Ten, Ohio State second, Penn State third and Wisconsin fourth,” Cowherd said. “Michigan had 8 blowout wins, dominated Penn State, physically dominated Wisconsin despite the low score. So I have no problem saying Michigan’s the best team.”
Michigan beat Penn State 49-10 on Sept. 24 and topped Wisconsin 14-7 a week later. Last weekend, however, the Wolverines lost 30-27 to Ohio State in double overtime, in a game they led most of the way — and up to the final second when a field by the Buckeyes forced OT.
“Ohio State for three quarters, the Buckeyes couldn’t move the football,” Cowherd said. “Ohio State fans outraged by that, you’re the same guy that’s going, ‘well we dominated Penn State even though we lost.’ Well that’s what Michigan did to you most of the day.”
Cowherd was harsh on Penn State, pointing to the Nittany Lions’ blowout loss to the Wolverines.
“Penn State was tossed around like a crouton in a salad bowl. No team that has played for the national title has ever lost 49-10 during the regular season. Ever.”
Ohio State (11-1) came in at No. 2 in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings, with 10-2 Michigan dropping 2 spots to No. 5. Wisconsin and Penn State, both 10-2 and playing one another in Saturday’s Big Ten Championship Game, were 6 and 7, respectively.
