Charles Woodson, a Miami Hurricane? He says it almost happened.
The ex-Michigan star and longtime NFL defensive back said Friday on the Rich Eisen Show that before the Wolverines game against Ohio State in 1996, his back was tight and a trainer told him he didn’t have to practice that day.
But no one told coach Lloyd Carr.
Woodson showed up in street clothes and Carr made him take the field. He gave him a hard time at practice that day and told him if he didn’t like it, he could leave.
So Woodson did.
He then talked with his teammates about transferring, to Miami in particularly. But Woodson wound up staying and winning the Heisman Trophy and national championship in 1997.
