Recruiting is never dead, at least when Jim Harbaugh is the head coach. Check Land of 10 daily for an update on all things Michigan recruiting.
With the 2017 recruiting cycle coming to a close, Michigan shifts its focus to the 2018 cycle. Usually, this is a time for coaches to take mini vacations and rest a little. But we saw firsthand on Friday afternoon that recruiting never stops when Penn State landed two commitments from the 2018 class in just the second day after the 2017 cycle ended.
Land of 10 has been reaching out to numerous 2018 targets, and here are a few who let us know the status of their recruitment along with some Ann Arbor travel plans.
L’Christian ‘Blue’ Smith, 4-star WR
You might know him as “Blue” Smith, but the Dayton (Ohio) 247Sports composite 4-star WR isn’t nicknamed that because of his fandom for Michigan. In fact, according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball, he’s an Ohio State favorite right now.
Ranked as the No. 101 player in the country, Smith is a rare commodity as a receiver, standing 6-foot-6, 205 pounds. Michigan showed its preference toward landing big receivers, as the 2017 receivers class consisted of two guys taller than 6-foot-4.
Smith told Land of 10 he will be taking a visit to Michigan’s campus soon. Expect this visit to come in the spring. A popular choice is to visit for the annual spring game, which took place on April 1 last year.
Tyreke Smith, 4-star DE
Cleveland 4-star DE Tyreke Smith is another Ohio native who is currently favored to choose the Buckeyes.
But Smith plans on taking a visit to Michigan, too. He went in detail with Land of 10 on his thoughts on the Wolverines.
On how often he hears from Michigan, and the message to him: “I hear from Michigan quite a bit. I have no date planned yet for my visit, but it will be after my basketball season. They said they want me there and they can’t wait for me to visit.”
On where he stands with Michigan right now: “I don’t have a top schools list or anything, but Michigan remains high for me, personally.”
Quick note on who Michigan has contacted
It’s early in the process, so don’t expect a lot to come out about recruitments just days after National Signing Day. But Land of 10 was able to confirm that Michigan has reached out to these 2018 prospects:
- Manvel (Texas) 3-star CB Trent Gordon – Talked with defensive backs coach Brian Smith.
- Owasso (Okla.) 4-star S Josh Proctor – Also talked with Smith.
It’s slow, but we have you covered for all that is happening.
