Big Ten Network’s Tom Dienhart ranks Michigan fourth in conference poll
Michigan is ranked No. 7 in the AP Poll and will likely move up a couple of spots when Tuesday’s new poll is out. The Wolverines also looked great against an overmatched Hawaii on Saturday, rolling 63-3.
But three conference teams have impressed BTN.com‘s Tom Dienhart more than the Wolverines, at least through Week 1.
Dienhart had Michigan fourth after No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 Wisconsin and No. 3 Iowa.
The Ohio State ranking makes sense, as does Wisconsin. The Badgers had the most important win for the conference, knocking off No. 5 LSU in thrilling fashion, 16-14, thanks to a late field goal.
The Iowa ranking raises some eyebrows, however. Sure, the Hawkeyes beat Miami (Ohio) 45-21 thanks to a powerful rushing game, but the MAC school did gain 424 yards (Iowa had 404).
Dienhart doesn’t seem to have any problems with how Michigan looked (not that there were many problems this week):
So, Wilton Speight is the anointed one. He looked good in his first career start, as the Wolverines notched 63 points. Could this be the first of seven wins to start the season?
