ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Did you ever wonder what the recruiting process is really like for prospective college football players? With that in mind, we reached out to this year’s incoming freshman class at Michigan in search of a little bit of personal insight on the process.
Land of 10 surveyed some of Michigan’s class of 2017 recruits with questions about the recruiting process — ranging from which coach on Michigan’s staff they formed a strong relationship with to which incoming recruit in this year’s class was their favorite.
This marks the sixth in a seven-part series, and here is the question we asked several of Michigan’s recruits:
Who is your favorite recruit in this year’s incoming class?
*Note: All ratings are from the 247Sports composite ranking system.
Deron Irving-Bey, 4-star DE, Southwestern Commencement Academy (Flint, Mich.)
“James Hudson. When I first met him, we were just cool like we were boys. Then I found out he was going to Michigan. On my official visit, we were hanging out. He’s just a real cool dude. He’s going to be my roommate, too.”
James Hudson, 4-star DT, Central Catholic (Toledo, Ohio)
“I don’t know if I have favorite recruit, because I get along pretty well with all of the guys, even the guys who are already there and were there when I visited. I felt like I was already there. But the guy that I’ve formed a bond with so far, that I’ve talked to a lot, is Deron Irving-Bey. Before he committed, we went on our official visit together, and he was just talking a lot, and I was trying to get him to go there, because I felt like we could be great teammates together. I hit it off with him. He’s a good dude.”
Donovan Peoples-Jones, 5-star WR, Cass Tech (Detroit)
“My roommate, Tarik Black. We talk about everything. We’re pretty much similar in a lot of ways. A lot of things he likes, I like.”
Phillip Paea, 3-star DT, Berrien Springs (Mich.)
“Chuck Filiaga. He’s such a funny guy. One of the funniest guys I know. The goofiest guy. Obviously, if you saw him, you’d be like, ‘Oh, he plays football.’ But if someone else had that personality, you would never guess.”
Josh Ross, 4-star LB, St. Mary’s Preparatory (Orchard Lake, Mich.)
“Drew Singleton. We roomed at The Opening together and we built a connection. We’re real close. We’re real good friends and we’re going to room together in the fall.”
Wednesday: What are you looking forward to most?
