Michigan tallied its fifth commitment in eight days on Thursday night.
Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy LB Jordan Anthony – a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports composite ratings – announced his commitment to Michigan.
Anthony spoke with Land of 10 about what led him to choose Michigan, and why he chose the Wolverines over Auburn, Maryland, Penn State and Oklahoma.
“Michigan is a school that has been recruiting me for a long time. The relationship I’ve had with the coaching staff has really made a huge impact on my decision. Along with the academics, and the overall campus situation,” Anthony said. “Michigan just felt like the perfect fit.”
What it means
Anthony’s commitment gives the Wolverines three total linebackers in the class, with the hope they land one or two more. The main targets are 4-star prospects Drew Singleton and Willie Gay.
Michigan has two inside linebackers in the class: Ben Mason and Josh Ross. Anthony is the first outside backer in the class.
This is the third commitment of the week for Michigan, and the second from IMG Academy – the first coming from 4-star center Cesar Ruiz.
The status of Michigan’s 2017 recruiting class
Michigan has 25 commitments in the 2017 class, and will look to add from four to seven more commitments before national signing day on Feb. 1.
The Wolverines’ class remains ranked No. 4 nationally, trailing No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Ohio State and Georgia.
There are no more scheduled commitments from Michigan targets until the U.S. Army All-American Game on Jan. 7. Michigan will await decisions from 4-star OT Chuck Filiaga, 4-star RB Eno Benjamin and 5-star CB Darnay Holmes.
