Next week’s game between Michigan and Michigan State doesn’t have the national intrigue that was expected coming into the season, but the Wolverines know what it means.
They haven’t forgotten the nightmare finish of last year’s 27-23 loss in Ann Arbor, and are eager to exact some revenge on the hapless Spartans.
“Those last couple seconds are still boiling,” senior running back De’Veon Smith told Wolverine 247. “We still taste it in our mouths. We’re going to give Michigan State our all next week.”
Michigan will get its shot next week at Spartan Stadium. Michigan State is now 2-5 after suffering its fifth-straight loss this season to Maryland, 28-17, on Saturday.
Even so, the Spartans have won the last three meetings against their rivals. Michigan’s seniors will want to avoid being swept.
“It’s just a game we have to win,” senior cornerback Jourdan Lewis said. “The dominance, that’s all I remember. How dominant they’ve been over this long stretch. I haven’t won against Michigan State my whole time here. We’re just trying to go out there and execute.”
