With the additions of two defensive front guys in Paye, and Jeter, Michigan is up to 18 commitments in the 2017 class. The final number of players they’re most likely to have for 2017 is around 27-30, going with a large class like 2016.
But of all the names in the class, of all the targets left on the board, who’s going public with their commitment next?
I’m going with Detroit Cass Tech 4-star DB Jaylen Kelly-Powell. That name likely surprises few, if any, but that’s the (hopefully) most accurate answer I have. He said in the summer that he would announce at or near the end of his season. His team starts playoffs Friday, and will likely go all the way to the state championship near the middle of November.
Kelly-Powell hasn’t been vocal about a leader, or a school he loves most, but it’s not hard to realize that Michigan has always been the clear No. 1 school for him. His dad absolutely loves Michigan and Jim Harbaugh. He’s often decked out in the Maize and Blue, and even Kelly-Powell himself rocks a lot of gear during games.
Specifically, he’s been spotted in-game wearing Michigan socks, gloves, etc., on five occasions. He wore these Michigan gloves during the Detroit Public School League Division I championship game last week.

All in all, I have a source close to the situation that said this one has been all but wrapped up for some time. While Kelly-Powell has been rumored to enjoy Alabama a lot, he didn’t make his scheduled visit there. It wouldn’t surprise me if he ends up visiting there before it’s all said and done, but he’s the guy I’m most confident in to choose Michigan when his season wraps up in the next few weeks, depending on the playoff outcome.
