DETROIT, Mich. – The Detroit Public School League Division I Championship almost always pits Detroit Cass Tech against Detroit King. On Friday, the two teams played each other once again.
The two schools are a pipeline for the Michigan football team. Jourdan Lewis, Delano Hill, LaVert Hill and Michael Onwenu are former stars for the two Detroit schools. The schools’ consistent pipelines are as hot as ever with Michigan’s biggest targets at multiple positions coming from these two schools.
Can Michigan land the entire Detroit group? Here’s what Cass Tech players had to say after defeating Detroit King, 41-20, on Friday night at Ford Field.
2017 4-star DB Jaylen Kelly-Powell
Kelly-Powell also carried the ball a few times on Friday night, and added a couple of pass breakups. His great pursuit, tackling ability and pure strength is a big reason Michigan has wanted him for so long. Kelly-Powell finished with 103 total yards on offense.
2017 5-star WR Donovan Peoples-Jones
Peoples-Jones started his day by blazing past Detroit King 4-star DB Ambry Thomas in coverage for a 50-yard touchdown. He has imposed his will on opponents all season, and I don’t think there’s a cornerback in the country that can cover him one-on-one. He had three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown in the game.
Detroit King 4-star WR/DB Ambry Thomas had the biggest, catching eight passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns.
The three rarely offer details about their recruitment. They move in silence, and often, that’s a good thing. I’ll leave it at this – if Michigan doesn’t land all three, I’ll be genuinely surprised.
