If you thought signing day for the 2018 class was nowhere in sight, just wait until we start discussing the 2019 class on Land of 10.
It’s about that time we do …
The Wolverines recruiting staff is out and about, offering 2018 recruits.
But that’s not the only class to monitor. The 2019 recruits who stand out in a big way are getting offered, too. And one who received an offer Wednesday spoke with Land of 10 about getting a Michigan offer as a high school sophomore.
Largo (Fla.) 2019 DE recruit Jaquaze Sorrells is committed to Florida as a sophomore. But as the story goes in recruiting, his mind is open to options. And right now Michigan is the biggest one.
“I really like Michigan’s program, and I feel like their coaches have the best interest in my skill and academics,” Sorrells said. “That’s important to me.”
Not many rankings have been made for the 2019 class — as far as 4 and 5-stars go — but there’s no doubt that Sorrells projects as a mid-to-high 4-star talent.

At 6-foot-3, 256 pounds, he’s an explosive defensive end with a high upside. How does Michigan feel about his upside? The comparison wasn’t meant to be underplayed.
“(Michigan) said that they see me being a help to the defensive line,” he said. “And that I could end up being like another Rashan Gary.”
That’s high praise for a 16-year-old who’s still learning how to use his turn signals. Regardless, it’s justified — just watch the film.
As far as Michigan’s chances to land the coveted prospect, an early start as his second scholarship offer might pay dividends.
“I feel like, right now, Florida and Michigan are my top two schools,” he said. “I’d say it’s Florida 75 percent, Michigan 25 percent.”
I know that doesn’t sound too exciting. But for Michigan in the running for a talented Florida prospect who’s already committed, without even visiting Michigan, and with 23 months left to continue recruiting … it’s a promising quote.
Sorrells hopes to visit Michigan in the summer, but no official plan has been made.
Let the games (of flipping a commitment) begin.
