Who has official visits scheduled?
It’s been a slow January for Michigan. And that trend will continue, as five of Michigan’s six remaining targets have already taken their official visit to Ann Arbor.
Two targets have canceled their visits in January, thus eliminating them as targets by default: 4-star OG CJ Thorpe and 3-star CB Brandon Sebastian.
A source told Land of 10 that Iowa City West 4-star WR Oliver Martin will take an official visit to Michigan this weekend. Martin made an unofficial visit for the Wisconsin game on Oct. 1. The Wolverines have been recruiting him closely with the news of Nico Collins seriously considering Georgia. Martin canceled visits with two schools last week, so this one isn’t guaranteed until his arrival. But, if he follows through on his plan, expect that to be a big sign on where he will sign.
Another official visitor already took his trip Tuesday-Thursday of this week. Grafton (Mass.) 3-star S Ifeatu Melifonwu received a visit from Jim Harbaugh last week, which led to him taking an official visit to Ann Arbor. Melifonwu still hasn’t been offered by Michigan, even after the visit, thus ending any sort of drama there.
Longtime Michigan commit Joel Honigford will be taking an official visit. He told Land of 10 that he will be recruiting Martin and expects to be “around him for the majority of his entire visit.”
How many official visits can Michigan use?
Based on the 40 official visitors Michigan has had, and the two more scheduled, it will have 14 remaining that were not used. The NCAA allows 56 official visits per school. Most schools never hit the maximum number.
Who enrolled early?
These players enrolled early at Michigan:
5-star WR Donovan Peoples-Jones
4-star C Cesar Ruiz
4-star CB Ambry Thomas
4-star WR Tarik Black
4-star S Jaylen Kelly-Powell
4-star DT Donovan Jeter
4-star DE Corey Malone-Hatcher
4-star OT Ja’Raymond Hall
4-star CB Benjamin St-Juste
3-star S J’Marick Woods
3-star LB/FB Ben Mason
Which commitments are wavering?
No commitments are wavering. Kai-Leon Herbert de-committed last week to flip to Miami. His commitment was the only one in question.
What’s this week’s best guess?
Signing day is Feb. 1, so there are a lot of options here. Here’s a breakdown on predictions:
5-star DT Aubrey Solomon will choose Michigan over Alabama.
4-star LB Willie Gay will commit to LSU over Michigan and Mississippi State.
4-star WR Oliver Martin will choose Michigan during a visit this weekend over Iowa, Michigan State and Notre Dame.
4-star DT Jay Tufele will commit to Utah over Michigan, Ohio State and USC.
4-star WR Nico Collins will commit to Georgia over Michigan.
3-star OT Mekhi Becton will commit to Virginia Tech over Michigan.
