Which coach would college coaches most want their sons to play for? Michigan State’s Tom Izzo
It’s one thing to be respected by players and in the weekly polls. It’s another when your own peers think highly of you.
According to CBS Sports‘ “Candid Coaches” series, when coaches were asked for which coach they would most like their son to play for, Michigan State’s Tom Izzo received the most votes.
Izzo picked up 16 percent of the vote, with Virginia’s Tony Bennett placing second with 14 percent. More than 100 coaches were asked.
Reporter Gary Parrish highlighted one coach quote that summarized Izzo’s appeal.
“Tom Izzo might be the most likable big-time coach we have. Great coach. Great guy. I’d let my sons play for him any day. You won’t find many people — maybe not any people — who don’t respect Coach Izzo.”
Izzo brings a perfect combination of coaching up players to succeed in college while also preparing them for the NBA. After all, Izzo hasn’t won 524 games and a national championship by accident.
The Spartans should again be one of the country’s best teams this upcoming season.
