Tom Izzo cemented his place in basketball history on Friday night when he was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
The Michigan State coach, who has made seven Final Fours and won the 2000 National Championship in 21 seasons with the Spartans, gave a speech spanning about 15 minutes. Izzo thanked everyone from his players to his wife, Lupe, to his best friend and former NFL coach, Steve Mariucci.
A handful of players were in attendance in Springfield, Mass., including Draymond Green.
“There are too many to name every one,” Izzo said. “But from the Player of the Year to the last man on the bench, you all had a profound effect on my career. And I hope you all share in this honor with me.”
