The Michigan State community is mourning the loss of former Spartans linebacker Mylan Hicks, who was shot and killed Sunday morning in Calgary.
Sunday evening, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio tweeted out a video memorializing Hicks. It’s an emotional tribute to a man Dantonio said “was a beautiful person.”

Hicks, who was from Detroit, was in his first season on the Calgary Stampeders practice squad in the CFL. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers in 2015.
At Michigan State, Hicks was a 3-star defensive back coming out of high school. He converted to linebacker before his junior season, and finished his career in 2014 with 27 tackles.
