Ten years ago, Michigan sports radio personality Mike Valenti went on a nearly 18-minute tirade after Michigan State lost to Notre Dame.
Valenti in 2006 called the Spartans 40-37 loss to Notre Dame an “outright choke job.” He continued to rant about it on the airwaves and indicted coach John L. Smith during it on a few occasions.

Ten years later, both Valenti and Smith were on 97.1 “The Ticket” to discuss the rant the day before the 2016 version of Michigan State-Notre Dame.
Valenti said he “openly admits he does not like hearing it,” though he’s not embarrassed by the rant.
Smith, who is now the coach of Kentucky State, said he heard the rant for the first time Friday when it was played to him as a guest on the radio.
“I’m sure a lot of guys have a lot of answers when it’s done,” Smith said. “…He’s never played the game, he has no idea what it’s like to put a jock on. And that’s where he belongs, up in the stands, ranting.”
