Coach Tom Izzo declined to comment on Saturday about the sexual assault allegation against Michigan State basketball freshman Brock Washington.
Washington, who has yet to play this season but was in uniform on Saturday for the Spartans’ comeback against Northwestern, has been under investigation for fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct since the start of the fall semester, according to a report on Thursday from Outside the Lines.
After the game, reporters asked Izzo questions surrounding the Washington allegation. He offered the following response:
“I’m not going to talk about that other than to say I know [interim university president John] Engler said as much as can be said at this time. I appreciate his leadership and support. Right now, my focus continues to be on the healing process of those survivors, our university, our community and my team. That’s what I’m going to stick with. There will be more said.”
Izzo was referencing the comments Engler made to local reporters on Friday. He called the report “incomplete” and believes Washington should receive an apology.
