With the 2016 NBA Draft just hours away, Michigan State coach Tom Izzo spoke to the media about his former Spartans embarking on the next step of their respective careers.
Many experts would label guard Denzel Valentine and forward Deyonta Davis as the high profile prospects coming out of East Lansing, Mich., but Izzo said shooting guard Bryn Forbes and big man Matt Costello have also garnered interest from NBA scouts.
“Bryn and Costello are on some boards,” Izzo said. “There’s been more than two or three teams, I mean they’ve both had 10-to-12 workouts. There’s times here that I had kids that I begged people to get them to workout. This time I turned people down because they couldn’t make any.”
Izzo was also happy to report that Forbes, who shot 48 percent from three-point range last season, broke a few records during workouts with various teams during the draft evaluation process. He’s confident that each of his players will be drafted.
“I think all four of them will sign something tomorrow night before the next day, I really do.”
Davis and Valentine are both expected to be taken in the first round. ESPN’s Chad Ford has Davis going to the Boston Celtics with the 16th pick and has Valentine off the board to the Charlotte Hornets with the 22nd pick in his latest mock draft. Costello and Forbes are both projected to go undrafted.
