According to 247Sports, deWeaver — a redshirt freshman — was the No. 11-ranked pro-style QB prospect in the Class of 2016. The 6-foot-4 signal caller redshirted in 2016 and played only a handful snaps this season, all against Ohio State.
The Spartans have used sophomore Brian Lewerke for nearly every passing attempt this season (417 of 418).
DeWeaver, from Dayton, Ohio, had scholarship offers from Penn State, Michigan, Louisville and Mississippi State, among others, while he was a prospect coming out of high school. During his senior year, deWeaver threw for 2,924 yards with 32 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.
