No, Michigan State’s 15-point win against Furman wasn’t overly impressive. Would it cost the Spartans in the polls, or would Michigan State’s reputation help it move up after a wild first weekend?
Well, Michigan State has its answers.
Previous rankings (Coaches/AP): No. 11/ No. 12
New rankings (Coaches/AP): No. 8/No. 12
Last result: 28-13 win against Furman
What it means: Michigan State probably continues to feel disrespected nationally, especially with Michigan dominating much of the conversation. But the coaches still have plenty of respect for the Spartans, as they moved up three spots into the Top 10 in the Coaches Poll even though they beat FCS Furman by only 15.
Michigan State won’t have to worry about losing a spot in the polls this week, either. The Spartans have a bye week before they travel to face Notre Dame on Sept. 17.
