With free-agent quarterback Mike Glennon a favorite to land in Chicago, Brian Hoyer and Josh McCown are the next sought after mediocre QBs.
Hoyer is receiving strong interest from the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The ex-Spartan quarterback played in six games last season with the Chicago Bears before suffering a season-ending forearm injury.
He completed 67 percent of his passes last year, throwing for 1,445 yards and six touchdowns with zero interceptions.
Hoyer’s name has been linked to San Francisco ever since Kyle Shanahan became head coach of the Niners. Shanahan coached Hoyer when the two where with the Cleveland Browns in 2014. Hoyer enjoyed his best passing yards season (3,326) when the two were pared in 2014.
Chicago has also not ruled out bringing back Hoyer as a stopgap QB to usher in a younger player.
The Niners, Jets and Bears are all in complete rebuild mode.
Hoyer’s compiled 8,608 passing yards, 44 touchdowns and 26 interceptions, resulting in a 84.8 passer rating.
During his days in East Lansing, Mich., Hoyer totaled 6,159 passing yards, along with 35 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.
