Mike Sadler was a student-athlete, through and through.
The former Michigan State punter started four years for the Spartans and was the only four-time Academic All-American in school history. He was killed in a car accident last Saturday in Wisconsin while traveling from a kicking and punting camp.
Wednesday, the school’s athletic program announced the Mike Sadler Legacy Football Scholarship Fund in his honor. The endowment will “provide scholarship support in perpetuity for the Spartan football program.”
Donations to the fund can by made by mail — sent to Michigan State University, Spartan Fund, 535 Chestnut Rd, Suite 200, East Lansing, MI 48824-4005 — or online by going to spartanfund.net and clicking on the “Give Now” link, then choosing Mike Sadler Memorial Scholarship Fund from the drop-down menu.
Michigan State and the Sadler family will hold a memorial at Spartan Stadium on Sunday at 3 p.m.
