There’s another craft beer that pays tribute to late Michigan State punter Mike Sadler. It’s a beer and a label that “would’ve made Mike proud,” one of his former teammates said.
Jagged Mountain Brewery, based in Denver, created Sadler’s Banana Hammock with the help of some Spartans. It’s a beer brewed with banana, blood orange and mini powdered donuts (a favorite snack of Sadler). Its name and label pay homage to a prank Sadler pulled in East Lansing.
Jagged Mountain Brewery also released Hey Diddle Diddle — a beer named after a trick play ran by Sadler — last year. Sadler, who played at Michigan State from 2011-2014, died in a car accident in July 2016.
Here’s the brewery’s description of how Sadler’s Banana Hammock came to be:
Sadler’s Banana Hammock is a tribute to Mike as retold by several of his friends and teammates (Jack Allen, Max Bullough, Connor Cook, Travis Jackson, Ian Jester, Connor Kruse, and Marcus Rush) who helped create this beer based on the fond stories they recall:
And here’s a look at the beer and its label, which, of course, features Sadler in a Speedo.
