Nick Ward’s week was so good it earned him two honors.
Ward was named both the Big Ten’s Freshman and Player of the Week on Monday. Ward put up big numbers in a pair of Spartans wins, including 22 points in just 19 minutes in a triumph Sunday over then-No. 16 Wisconsin.

Ward also scored 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds as the Spartans topped Nebraska last Thursday.
Ward, a 6-foot-8 forward, is averaging 13.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game this season. But, with Michigan State facing injury woes, Ward has stepped up lately.
In his last five games, Ward is averaging 15.4 points per game and has shot 61.7 percent from the floor during that span. That’s great news for the Spartans as the calendar turns to March.
