Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio talks Ed Davis, being reigning Big Ten champs at press conference
Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio met with the media on Tuesday as the Spartans prepare for the season-opening game against Furman on Friday.
Some of Dantonio’s highlights:
- “Make no mistake about it, we are the reigning Big Ten champions,” he said, adding Michigan State has to defend that.
- Michigan State is still “waiting on the paperwork” for LB Ed Davis. Dantonio said the team should know soon and that Davis is allowed to practice. The Spartans had hoped Davis would be cleared by the season opener. Davis applied for a sixth year of eligibility after he missed the 2015 season with a knee injury.
- Michigan State listed “OR” between LJ Scott, Gerald Holmes and Madre London at RB. Dantonio said he will go with the hot hand but that all three have the chance to be great.
- On QB Tyler O’Connor, Dantonio said he told him to be himself and understand that there will be criticism. He said O’Connor’s understanding of the offense is a 10 out of 10.
Dantonio: Opening game is the starting point for everybody. Make no mistake about it, we are the reigning Big 10 Champions.
