No. 12 Michigan State opened its season with a 28-13 win against Furman. But one of its coaches wasn’t there.
Defensive line coach Ron Burton had an emergency procedure on Friday morning, Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio said Tuesday.
Dantonio didn’t want to elaborate on the situation, but he did add that linebackers/special teams coach Mark Snyder led the defensive line during Burton’s absence. Snyder moved from up in the box to down on the sideline to coach.
Dantonio said Burton is back with the team.
“I don’t think there’s any question that affects your staff and affects how you do things,” Dantonio said. “So I didn’t really think it was appropriate to talk about it, but since you asked. He’s doing well and he’s back with us and everything.”
Michigan State, currently on a bye week, won’t play again until Sept. 17 at Notre Dame.
