According to Matt Charboneau of The Detroit News, Merchant was taken to a local hospital after being helped to the locker room.
After the game, assistant coach Amaka Agugua said Merchant was “doing well,” according to the Lansing State-Journal.
“She went down pretty hard. She fainted and was a little discombobulated when she got up. She was trying to figure out what happened,” Agugua said. “She knows what happened at the end of the game. She was communicating very well. She’s going to be OK.”
Merchant is in her 10th season as Michigan State head coach. The Spartans beat Illinois 71-47 in their Big Ten opener to improve to 11-3 on the season.
