Michigan State will try to avoid its fourth straight loss and earn its first Big Ten win of the season when it hosts Northwestern Saturday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.
Michigan State fell to 2-3 with a 31-14 loss at home against Brigham Young. The Spartans led 7-3 at halftime and trailed by just three points, 10-7, entering the fourth quarter but lost their second consecutive home game in decisive fashion. Quarterback Tyler O’Connor was replaced in the fourth quarter by Damion Terry, leading to a week-long intrigue as to who will start this week.
Northwestern (2-3, 1-1) is led by redshirt sophomore quarterback Clayton Thorson, junior running back Justin Jackson and junior safety Godwin Igwebuike. The Wildcats are coming off a bye week after beating Iowa, 38-31, in Iowa City on Oct. 1.
