Michigan State has added a third Dowell brother to the fold.
Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward defensive back Michael Dowell, brother of Spartans rising junior linebacker Andrew and rising sophomore safety David, announced his commitment to Michigan State on Monday with a video featuring his siblings.

Dowell, rated a 3-star prospect in the 247Sports composite, ranks as the No. 28 safety in the 2018 class. The 6-foot junior chose the Spartans over such offers as Cincinnati, Duke, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Maryland, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio first shared the news of Dowell’s commitment, doing so without naming his future safety to follow NCAA rules.

The decision gives Michigan State its sixth commitment in the 2018 class, fourth from Ohio and third in the secondary alongside Xavier Henderson and Chris Jackson. The Spartans remain ninth in the Big Ten recruiting rankings despite Dowell’s commitment.
The Spartans are not expected to lose any safeties following the 2018 season. Dowell’s commitment adds even more depth, as well as the opportunity for him to learn from veteran players before playing a major role in the defense.
Dowell has made many game-day visits to Michigan State over the past two seasons to see his brothers play. Now he’s pledged to be at Spartan Stadium from 2018 onward, but in uniform.
