While Michigan State men’s basketball sat atop the BOK Center podium for a press conference and followed it up with a dunktastic open practice in front of fans, the Spartans’ football team went behind the scenes.
Five football prospects announced offers from the Spartans on Thursday. Coach Mark Dantonio and his staff intend to have a smaller recruiting class in 2018, but that didn’t stop them from reaching out to these five juniors.
2018 Timpview (Provo, Utah) defensive tackle Jackson Cravens
Extremely excited to receive an offer from Michigan State! pic.twitter.com/nnFFz3n6po

The Spartans could certainly use some help on the defensive line. They’ll also be looking to add multiple linemen in 2018. Cravens hails from the hometown of BYU but he has not yet received an offer from the Cougars. MSU joined Utah and Vanderbilt among the schools that have offered.
3-star 2018 Calabasas (Calif.) wide receiver Nikko Hall

This West Coast wideout says he stands 6-foot-2 and is right on the cusp of being rated a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports composite. He holds a lot of offers closer to home, but Michigan State joins Nebraska and Wisconsin among the Big Ten schools that have offered.
4-star 2018 Harrisburg (Pa.) wide receiver Shaquon Anderson-Butts

Michigan State will have to make up a lot of ground on the teams that have already offered. Penn State isn’t far from home and may well be the favorite, while Notre Dame and Pittsburgh also have a good shot. Ohio State has recruited him heavily but not yet offered.
4-star 2018 Lake Zurich (Ill.) linebacker Jack Sanborn
— Jack Sanborn (@JackSanborn79) March 17, 2017
The Spartans have found success recruiting the greater Chicago area, with linemen Kevin Jarvis and Jacub Panasiuk signing on for the 2017 class. Sanborn now has a Michigan State offer as well, joining Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin from the Big Ten.
3-star Buford (Ga.) running back Christian Turner
Blessed to receive my 25th offer from Michigan State University ?? pic.twitter.com/91eCuhcQrz
— Christian Turner (@_ChrisTurner28) March 16, 2017
Michigan State got a visit from Turner back in November. He has family in Michigan and wanted to see the Spartans take on the Wolverines, so he did. He didn’t leave campus with an offer, but he’s got one now. The Spartans desperately need one or more running back in the class.
Another weekend visitor
Michigan State will be bringing in football recruits over the weekend as it continues to keep spring practice closed from the public. Four-star prospect Logan Brown and PJ Mustipher already shared their intentions of coming in over the weekend, and now there’s another.
Gahanna (Ohio) Lincoln sophomore tight end CJ Kiss announced that he will visit the Michigan State campus on Saturday.
Heading up to Michigan State tomorrow ‼️

If the name of the town looks familiar, Michigan State freshman big man Nick Ward hails from Gahanna as well.
A message from a future Spartans basketball player
Michigan State kicks off its 20th straight NCAA Tournament on Friday night in Tulsa, Okla. The Spartans will take on Miami (Fla.) at approximately 9:20 p.m. ET on TNT.
Macomb (Mich.) Dakota forward Thomas Kithier is just a junior and won’t get to Michigan State until 2018, but he has been committed to the Spartans since August. He gave Land of 10 his reaction to his future team’s selection and its chances in the tournament.
“Coach (Tom) Izzo did a great job with the team,” he said. “Ready to see them make another Final Four run.”
