Michigan State took a step toward landing another defensive lineman to finish out the 2018 class when Habakkuk Baldonado announced on Monday that the Spartans have offered.

Baldonado, a Clearwater (Fla.) Academy International senior, took an official visit to Michigan State with his mother over the weekend. “Big time offer and amazing visit,” the 6-foot-5 standout wrote.
A native of Italy who moved in with a host family in Florida in July, Baldonado remains unranked and unrated in the 247Sports composite system. Central Florida, Cincinnati, Illinois, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and now the Spartans have all offered in the last two weeks.
“It’s a great thing,” Baldonado told Land of 10 of the offer. “It’s a big-time offer, great school, amazing people, so it’s a really good thing for me.”
Baldonado burst onto the scene this fall with 30 1/2 sacks as a senior, blasting the previous school record. He caught Michigan State’s attention and was visited by offensive line coach Mark Staten and assistant defensive backs coach Jesse Johnson days apart earlier this month.
Now the Spartans have offered as they look to fill the final remaining spots in their 2018 class. Defensive line has been the main priority, especially after freshman DE Lashawn Paulino-Bell’s decision to transfer was confirmed by coach Mark Dantonio on Friday.
Michigan State signed 20 players to its class during the early period in December. Three of those recruits are defensive linemen: 3-star Chaminade (West Hills, Calif.) DE Parks Gissinger and 3-star Olentangy (Lewis Center, Ohio) twins Jacob and Zach Slade.
Michigan State brought in 3-star Bolingbrook (Ill.) defensive tackle Dashaun Mallory for an official visit from Jan. 12-14 and is expected to do the same with Rome (Ga.) defensive end Jamarcus Chatman from Jan. 19-21.
National Signing Day for the 2018 class is Feb. 7.
