Michigan State’s quarterback question remains: Tyler O’Connor or Brian Lewerke?
If you were hoping for a hint with Tuesday’s depth chart release, here’s some bad news. The Spartans listed O’Connor “OR” Lewerke as the starter for Saturday’s game at Maryland. On Tuesday, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said it will probably be a game-time decision.
Lewerke, a redshirt freshman, started this past week in the 54-40 loss to Northwestern. He was 12-for-19 for 99 yards and a touchdown. But senior O’Connor took over in the third quarter, going 13-for-21 for 181 yards, 3 TDs and an interception.
On Sunday, Dantonio said no quarterback decision has been made but that Lewerke would play at some point. This depth chart hints that may continue to be the thinking.
Junior Damion Terry is listed third on the depth chart. Dantonio said on Tuesday that Terry was held out of the Northwestern game because of a “hand issue” and that he isn’t out of the mix.
