Michigan State finished its season in style, defeating Washington State, 42-17, in Thursday night’s 2017 Holiday Bowl. It marked the Spartans’ 10th win of the season and the 100th win of coach Mark Dantonio’s career at Michigan State. On top of all that, running back LJ Scott announced afterward he’ll be returning for his senior season.
With Scott back in the fold, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit seems to think Michigan State is a program on the rise for 2018.
Congrats on a great turnaround this year Sparty!!! Great to see that winning attitude back in East Lansing. Dino has done an incredible job up there. Next year could be even better. Congrats!! https://t.co/f91rcrFYyl

A season after finishing 3-9, Dantonio engineered a turnaround campaign that re-invigorated the fan base. In finishing the season with a victory, the Spartans became the eighth team in program history to reach the 10-win plateau.
It’s a mark Michigan State hopes to reach again next season, when it welcomes a recruiting class ranked No. 26 in the nation and No. 5 in the Big Ten, according to the 247Sports composite. For now, at least, the Spartans can relish in a triumphant end to an emotional season.
