Michigan State’s 2018 season opener was moved up a day, the Big Ten announced Friday. The Spartans will now host Utah State on Friday, Aug. 31 instead of Saturday, Sept. 1 to start next season.
The Big Ten announced date changes for five games next season on Friday. Wisconsin will also open its season on the night of Aug. 31 against Western Kentucky, while Northwestern-Purdue was moved to Thursday, Aug. 30. The Big Ten also moved two conference games, putting Penn State at Illinois on Friday, Sept. 21 and Indiana at Minnesota on Oct. 26.
The Big Ten first announced it would play Friday night games in 2016.
After the Spartans host Utah State on Friday, they will travel to face Arizona State on Sept. 8. Michigan State closes out its 2018 nonconfernce schedule with a home game against Central Michigan on Sept. 29.
