Michigan State had been on a record pace for penalties this season under coach Mark Dantonio entering Saturday’s game against Rutgers. But this is a whole new issue.
The Spartans were penalized five yards for having two No. 22’s in the huddle in the fourth quarter — running back Delton Williams and wide receiver Paul Andrie.
The official used a motion signal — false starts, illegal procedures — and described the penalty instead of calling an actual foul.

Michigan State was just penalized five yards because Delton Williams and Paul Andrie both wear 22 and were on the field at the same time

Andrie is a fifth-year senior walk-on who hasn’t seen game action. Williams has had an up-and-down career for the Spartans. He had over 500 yards combined in his first two years, but carried the ball for the first time this season today against Rutgers.
