At a breakfast event Thursday, Michigan State interim president John Engler said a decision has still not been made regarding the university’s next athletic director.
The position has been up for grabs since former AD Mark Hollis, who started in the position in 2008, stepped down on Jan. 31, 2018 in wake of the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal. Michigan State president Lou Anna Simon also resigned during that time.
Shortly after Engler became the university’s interim president, Michigan State named Bill Beekman its interim AD on Feb. 5. Beekman worked on the Michigan State board of trustees since 2008 and most recently served as the executive director of the Spartans’ alumni association before taking on the new role.
Beekman could remain as Michigan State’s permanent AD, though that decision has yet to be made. Engler said as much Thursday while speaking at the Detroit Free Press “Breakfast Club,” a new morning speaker series.
Also said that no decision has been made on timing of permanent AD hire but said Bill Beekman has been doing a "great job"
