Denzel Valentine is officially in the NBA.
The former Michigan State guard was taken by the Chicago Bulls with the 14th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft on Thursday night.
Valentine is coming off of a decorated senior season with the Spartans. He was named the Big Ten Player of the Year in March after averaging 19.2 points, 7.8 assists and 7.5 rebounds during his final year in East Lansing, Mich.
Michigan State went 29-6 last season and took home the Big Ten tournament championship thanks to Valentine’s 15 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. His accomplished career ended in disappointing fashion when the Spartans were upset by No. 15 seed Middle Tennessee State in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
Valentine also received one last collegiate award before officially joining the association. He was named the Big Ten’s Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year on Wednesday. He is the first Big Ten player drafted in this year’s class.
