Michigan State LB Ed Davis can apply for a sixth year of eligibility with the NCAA when he finishes the final class needed to complete his undergraduate degree Thursday, MLive.com’s Kyle Austin reports.
If Davis passes, he can return to practice with the team. He then needs to get a sixth-year waiver from the NCAA. Davis injured his knee in training camp last year and missed the season after making 58 tackles with 7.5 sacks as a starting linebacker in 2014.
Coach Mark Dantonio, via MLive.com, said everything “should be good” with Davis. The team hopes he’s cleared by its season opener against Furman on Sept. 2.
Besides his eligibility, there are questions about Davis’ health. He participated in non-contact drills during spring practice, but hasn’t been full go in more than a year.
