Michigan State DL Demetrius Cooper was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery in October and spit in an East Lansing Police officer’s face during the incident, according to Matt Charboneau of the Detroit News.
A Parking and Code Enforcement officer said he saw a car parked illegally in East Lansing and issued a citation before being confronted by Cooper, who came out of the restaurant as the officer wrote the ticket, according to court records obtained by the Detroit News.
Cooper says he went back into restaurant after the officer said he could receive another ticket, then police say the Spartans lineman spit on him, according to the Detroit News. Cooper denies spitting on the officer.
Cooper has made 55 tackles and 8.5 sacks in 38 career games, and will likely enter 2017 as a starter on the defensive line.
