Tom Izzo seems like the kind of guy you could have a beer with, right? His college basketball coaching peers sure think so.
CBS Sports released an anonymous poll of college basketball coaches this week asking them a simple question: Who’s the college coach you’d most like to have a beer with?
Izzo took 10 percent of the vote, coming in third place in the country. Only West Virginia’s Bob Huggins (29 percent) and Kansas’ Bill Self (15 percent) were ahead of the Spartans head coach.
Nebraska’s Tim Miles was also one of a handful of coaches who received three or more votes. More than 110 coaches from across the country were part of the survey.
One anonymous quotes about Izzo:
“Izzo — with a bottle of red.”
And one about Miles:
“I’d enjoy a drink with Tim Miles from Nebraska. I scouted against him while I was at [school redacted] and gained a great respect for him as a coach. His teams play really hard and the right way. It’s apparent he knows exactly what he’s doing. In addition, I overheard a few of his jokes while watching a 17U game down in Atlanta a few years back. From my early assessment, I’d have to say he is a top-five funniest coach in America. I’d like to pick his brain on hoops and hear much more of his comedic material.”
And while football season is just getting started, college basketball teams will start official practice in just about six weeks. We’ll drink to that.
