Brian Bowen appeared to be a Michigan State lean for the majority of the 2017 recruiting cycle. Now that’s all changed.
Bowen, a consensus 5-star small forward prospect out of La Porte, Ind. is the highest-rated commit left on 247Sports’ Class of 2018 rankings. He’ll be announcing his commitment on Twitter at 3 p.m. Saturday, and the latest 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions have him going to Louisville.
247 has him as the No. 18 recruit overall, the No. 5 player at his position and the No. 2 player in Indiana. His high school teammate, fellow 5-star prospect Jaren Jackson Jr., is already committed to the Spartans, and Bowen seemed likely to follow suit. Bowen had long listed Michigan State among his top schools, including the Spartans with Arizona, Creighton, N.C. State, Texas, Oregon and Florida State. However, the months went by and he still hadn’t committed. Then Miles Bridges announced that he was returning for his sophomore season, which Bowen said “caught me off-guard a little.”
Louisville has emerged as a late player in Bowen’s recruitment, as he visited there this week. Bowen’s 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions started trending toward Louisville earlier this week. Then, in a weird twist, reporters found that a Brian Bowen had enrolled at Louisville for summer classes.
Got a tip that Brian Bowen had enrolled . I'd say this is good news unless there are two of them pic.twitter.com/PbIQc74z7G

None were able to confirm that this is 5-star basketball recruit Brian Bowen. Still, Andrew Slater of InsideTheVille reports that a source said to expect Bowen to land at Louisville. Nothing’s official yet, but seven Crystal Ball predictions in two days is as good an indicator as there is. The chances Bowen ends up at Michigan State appear slimmer than ever. Luckily for the Spartans, they’ll still return a stacked team that ESPN’s Joe Lunardi gave a No. 2 seed in his super early summer bracketology.
