The Runnin’ Rebels pulled off a shocker Tuesday night, and left Michigan State bummin’.
Brandon McCoy, rated a 5-star prospect and the No. 5 power forward in 2017 by 247Sports, announced via Twitter late Tuesday his commitment to to UNLV.

Rated the 13th-best prospect in the nation, the San Diego native had both Michigan State and UNLV in his top 5 back in November, along with San Diego State, Oregon and Arizona. McCoy’s commitment to UNLV comes as a little bit of a shock to many — 247Sports projected that Oregon had a 63-percent chance to land a commitment from the power forward.
By comparison, Michigan State was projected to have a 16-percent chance while UNLV was at 11 percent.
The Spartans hardly sit empty-handed for 2017, however, as they still have 5-star forward Jaren Jackson and 4-star forward Xavier Tillman signed. Tom Izzo & Co. also have hopes that 5-star small forward Brian Bowen will select the Spartans.
The Michigan State class is currently ranked No. 6 in the Big Ten and No. 40 in the nation.
