The beer, “Hey Diddle Diddle,” is an “All-American wheat ale” made to honor Sadler, who died in a car accident last July, and the trick play he ran during the Spartans’ Rose Bowl season in 2013.
The label says, “Mike was a gifted All-American and Academic All-American athlete with charisma, character and a witty sense of humor. He also had a passion for craft beer and home brewing.”
Inspired by Sadler’s creations, Jagged Mountain made a beer with apricots, blood oranges and Belgian yeast, finishing it with rose pedals. The label features Sadler’s No. 3 flanked by roses.
“His legacy of excellence continues to inspire young and old alike, so raise a glass and lay down your roses in memory of Mike,” the label said.
The brewery is hosting a release party with words from brewer Adam Glaser and Sadler’s mother, Karen.
Jagged Mountain will donate $1 for every pint of the beer sold until the batch runs out.
This is not the first time Sadler has been honored, of course. The former Spartans punter was honored on College GameDay, during the coin toss at the Big Ten Championship Game, and he was inducted into the Michigan State Athletics Hall of Fame, among many other tributes.
