Michigan State is expected to sign its third 5-star recruit in two years on Wednesday.
Six-foot-10 forward commit Jaren Jackson Jr. will sign his national letter of intent at a La Lumiere School (Ind.) ceremony with his teammates at 9:22 a.m. EST, assistant coach Brian Tonino told Land of 10.
The early signing period for basketball begins Wednesday morning and concludes the following Wednesday, Nov. 16. After that, players cannot sign until the regular period, which begins April 12, 2017.
Jackson committed to the Spartans on Sept. 15, his 17th birthday, becoming the first member of the 2017 class. He has since been joined by 4-star Grand Rapids (Mich.) Christian forward Xavier Tillman. Tillman’s mother told Land of 10 they are “still working out details” with his signing plans.
The other committed senior at La Lumiere is 4-star Michigan commit Jordan Poole. Five-star wing Brian Bowen is on the team, but the Michigan State target has not yet picked a school.
Jackson picked Michigan State over Georgetown, Maryland, Notre Dame and Purdue. He averaged 15.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 1.2 assists and 1.1 steals on 45.5 percent shooting from the field playing for the Spiece Indy Heat alongside Tillman at the Nike EYBL.
He is ranked the No. 22 prospect in the nation.
