Boateng, a 3-star prospect in the 247Sports composite, visited campus for the first time on Sunday. Ranked the No. 75 OLB in the nation, he chose the Spartans over offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville and Pittsburgh, among others.
“I loved it,” he told Land of 10 about the visit. “It was everything I expected and a little more.”
Boateng becomes the seventh commitment in Michigan State’s 2018 class, which ranks ninth in the Big Ten. The Spartans now have five commitments from Ohio. Boateng already knows three of the others: Trenton Gillison, Xavier Henderson and Edward Warinner, who all hail from the Columbus area.
Boateng also becomes Michigan State’s fifth defensive commitment. The Spartans have found success with a Dublin Coffman linebacker before. Steve Gardiner (2009-12) finished his Michigan State career with 43 tackles.
The 6-foot-2 Boateng is next in line. His commitment came within moments of fellow Michigan State outside linebacker target Jaylan Franklin, who chose Wisconsin.
Boateng’s highlights are below.
