Maryland previously had 3-star LB Eriq Gilyard committed in the 2018 class, but he reopened his recruitment in January. Nchami is the No. 20 recruit in Maryland and the No. 52 weak-side defensive end in the Class of 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite. He attends Paint Branch High School, which is only a short drive away from Maryland’s campus. Nchami, who measures at 6 feet 3 and 205 pounds, received his offer from Maryland in January. He also had offers from Pitt, Virginia, Syracuse and Old Dominion.
Maryland added 3-star DE prospects B’Ahmad Miller and Lawtez Rogers in its 2017 class, and will have to replace seniors Jesse Aniebonam and Chandler Burkett after this season. Coach DJ Durkin is looking to replicate the success of his top-20 class last year, and this is one step in the right direction.
