Transfer quarterback Caleb Henderson will not play in Maryland’s spring game Saturday because of an ankle injury, coach DJ Durkin told reporters before Thursday’s practice.
The junior signal-caller sat out the 2016 season after transferring from North Carolina. Henderson was a 4-star recruit in the class of 2014 and redshirted his freshman season. Before leaving the Tar Heels, he lost the backup quarterback competition to potential top-10 NFL draft pick Mitchell Trubisky.
Henderson is involved in another quarterback competition in College Park. Tyrrell Pigrome, Max Bortenschlager and Ryan Brand will all partake in the Terps’ spring game. Pigrome and Bortenschlager each saw game action last season as true freshmen.
While Henderson still has fall camp to prove he deserves the starting gig, Maryland’s fans have to be disappointed they can’t see Henderson take snaps in this upcoming scrimmage.
