Former Maryland Terrapin and current Philadelphia Eagles WR Torrey Smith returned to his former professional stomping grounds last weekend for the annual Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter dog and cat show, Pawject Runway, and showed some lucky pups just how big his heart is.
The former Baltimore Raven has been known to attend the event frequently and also took his dog on the runway, but he was there to do more than just take a few laps on the stage to let a crowd judge his dog.
According to the BARCS Facebook page, Smith and his wife, Chanel, spent time Saturday night with homeless animals backstage and wanted to “ensure” that each one had an application by the end of the show.
“The Smith family went above and beyond, making an extra donation on top of each animals’ adoption fees,” the BARCS post said. “It was the best finale we could ask for.”
Just like that, 46 animals that were once homeless and without an owner will receive a home because of Smith, BARCS said.
“Thank you Torrey and Chanel, for always looking out for Baltimore’s homeless dogs and cats and having such a big heart for our city,” BARCS added on the post.
