It’s been a special few weeks for longtime Iowa coach Hayden Fry.
A new bronze statue commemorates the coach and his former assistant Kirk Ferentz also has a new contract extension. On the field, Iowa is 2-0 after beating rival Iowa State.
The 87-yard-old Fry also recently took a tour of Iowa’s Hansen Football Performance Center, led by Ferentz.
Fry, who won a record 143 games during his 20 seasons as Iowa’s head coach, seemed really impressed by the facility.
“Boy, this should really help recruiting, you know? Kids out of high school gotta be impressed with this facility,” he said during the tour.
Ferentz also got a look at pictures of former Iowa standouts, from Reggie Roby, who set punting records, to quarterback Chuck Long. Fry remembered when Long threw up on his pants and shoes.
When he saw Ferentz for the first time, Fry quipped, “Who’s this young man with the grey hair?”
