Iowa didn’t need to go far to find Tyler Linderbaum. The 3-star defensive lineman grew up a few miles north of Iowa City, playing for Solon High School. Iowa State and Minnesota entered the picture for Linderbaum, but he didn’t need too long to land on the Hawkeyes. Iowa offered him in March 2017 and he committed about two months later. He signed during the early signing period on Wednesday.

Tyler Linderbaum: Commitment
When he committed back in the spring, Linderbaum looked like the kind of under-the-radar and overlooked local product the Hawkeyes consistently land. The under-the-radar part disappeared once Linderbaum played his senior season.
After recording 34.5 tackles, 3 tackles for loss and 1 sack as a senior, Linderbaum is set to play in the U.S. Army All-American Game in January. He is the third Iowa signee in two years to play in the game. Defensive end A.J. Epenesa and offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs were part of the 2017 game.
Linderbaum is more athletic than your typical defensive tackle. He played quarterback in middle school and grew into the position. In fact, he took scout-team reps at wide receiver as a junior.
Linderbaum’s ability to embrace the physicality of the defensive line while still holding onto his athleticism is what differentiates him from others at the position.
“He is a prototype D-lineman,” Solon football coach Kevin Miller told Land of 10 in May. “From the mental and physical standpoint, that’s him. He’s got the right mindset to play on the D-line. He’s tough and nasty. That’s what you got to be.”
He is also a multisport athlete. Linderbaum placed fifth in the state as a Class 2A heavyweight wrestler last season. He finished 11th in the shot put at the Drake Relays this spring. He spends his summers on the baseball field, pitching as well as playing first and third base.
