Texas cornerback Matt Hankins commits to Iowa
It didn’t take long for Iowa to pick up commitment No. 14.
Earlier today, the Hawkeyes added verbal commitment No. 13 from Texas 3-star wide receiver Gavin Holmes. Now they’ve added another Texas prep star: defensive back Matt Hankins has committed to Iowa.

A 3-star cornerback from Flower Mound (TX), Hankins picked the Hawkeyes over scholarship offers from Missouri, Houston, Texas Tech, Duke and others.
Derek Young of HawkeyeInsider.com had this to say about the 6-foot-tall, 180-pound Hankins.
“Hankins is a big pick-up at a position of need,” Young shared with Landof10. “Iowa lost two corners to transfer and two more will graduate after the upcoming season. (Hankins) is a little lean yet but has the frame to thicken out and is proven against top competition. He plays in highest classification of Texas in the wide receiver-rich Dallas-Fort Worth area.”
The 14th commitment in Iowa’s 2017 class, Hankins is the fourth verbal from Texas to say yes to Ferentz and the Hawkeyes this cycle, joining Belton’s 3-star quarterback Peyton Mansell, 4-star running back Eno Benjamin out of Wylie and the aforementioned Holmes from Justin.
With today’s verbals, Iowa now sites behind only Ohio State and Michigan as the Big Ten’s third-ranked 2017 recruiting class.
